Comments about the photographs

Hello everybody! The site is almost complete. Stay tuned for the launch date coming soon. If you have signed into the guestbook, you will recieve an email launch notification.

I have been sorting through the comments some of you have been kind enough to leave, looking for some I might want to post. But one in particular, from a friend of my folks, really struck me. For this reason I descided to post only his comment.

Below is his email about some of the earlier photographs on this site which mostly showcased the Barcelona Graffiti Series at the time.

Hi, Ty (I've always wanted to say that!).

I'm a friend of your Dad and Mom, or at least an acquaintance of sorts. I think I even met you once at their house in Virginia. They shared your work with me the other day and I'm just now getting around to some kind of unsolicited and decidedly unqualified response.

First, since "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," let me say that the same applies, in my humble opinion, to music and the ear and art and the palette (if I may be so.....). In any event, I don't always like the music I hear, but seem to have an appreciation nevertheless for the talent that goes into making it. Similarly, I don't always like the art, but can often see what I think the artist felt when creating it. Then again, I am sometimes dumb-founded by every aspect of a work (the Pieta, the "1812," etc.). My passion is actually writing, and although I'm not very good at it, I am confident that I can always recognize a good word master, even if I don't agree with his text.

I must confess a certain weakness, however, for photography....it shows what was and what is, how it was and how it is. It speaks a certain irrefutable truth all its own. I have been fortunate on rare occasions to snap incredible stills that might make Ansel Adams proud! Those were accidents. The vast majority of the time, my pictures are intended merely to post a visual reminder of events in memory somewhat more reliable than that between my ears -- and that's just about the extent of their value in any terms.

Your work, if I may say it, is remarkable. And, while I might not always fully appreciate the subject of the matter, I can discern your mastery in preserving and presenting it as it was obviously meant to be. That's truly an art, one of which I'm sure you are justifiably proud, and of which I am shamefully envious. I shared your mom's message with my fiancé; she spent a great deal of time scrutinizing every picture and was left with the impression that you are a professional in every sense of the word....more than that....an artist.

I'm glad we got the chance to see your work and equally glad that you enjoy doing it so much. What a rare thing today! Maybe you can add me to your list of contacts to share future efforts with. I would really enjoy seeing them and promise to use them for personal recreation only -- not for profit. (Connie would kill me!)
